The village was already populated in the stone age. It was demolished by Tatar troops. The village was granted by Poky family by King Béla IV. Tha family established a monastry, the remains which is wrongly called Pokvár. During turkish rule the village was owned by the bashaws of Buda. The present village was established by uniting several villages. It already had its owned seal by 1697.A famous son of the village was poet Károly Kisfaludy. His memory is kept alive by a permanent exhibition.
