Description
The most beautiful late Baroque palace in Szombathely was built near the one-time medieval castle church in the late 18th century based on Menyhért Hefele’s plans. An ornamental staircase leads from the vaulted cosch driveway up to the nicest room of the palace, which is decorated with wall paintings and ceiling frescos by Anton Maulberthsch. In 1991 John Paul II. delivered his blessings to the believers from the balcony of the palace. The Episcopal Palace is generally not open to visitors.
