Szár was the property of the Csák clan and was a royal estate from 1323. The origin of the name is the old Hungarian adjective szár (bald) which can be found in the name of László Szár, too, a cousin of St. Stephen. The settlement and the St. Michael church known from 1349 were destroyed in the Turkish time. It was repopulated by German settlers in 1728 and was the property of the Eszterházy family. The new church built in the middle of the 18th century and the parsonage are of monument... tovább character. Its present population is almost 1700.
