Mór is situated in the breakline which separates Bakony from Vértes, in the Móri-valley. The central part of the settlement was formed on the southwest fringe of Vértes. The town looking back upon several thousands of years of the past and its neighbourhood was occupied by neolithic people according to archeological data. The Móri-valley – as a significant terretrial route – kept its importance in the Roman period as well. The name of town was formed from a personal name by Humgarian naming.... tovább . The personal name serving as is root is the Latin Maurus personal name meaning ’Moor’, ’Saracen’. The German Moor ’Mór’ placename comes from the Hungarian language. The settlement was ecclesiastical domain as well in medieval centuries, then it became the appurtenance of the castle of Csókakő. The decades of the Turkish invasion were characterized by significant hardships. Geman settlers arrived in Mór in order to increase the economic power of the diminshed Hungarian population. Owing to the German settling, Mór became the most important settlement with national minority. The 18th century is the period of reconstruction: the Capuchine’s convent and church, the Lamberg familiy’s castle and – at the beginning of the 19th century – the Luzsénszky-castle were built. The town played an important role in the organization of civil administration, it became a district seat. The lower-level educational instituts were widened by a higher elementaryschool and a school of professional training. Today there is a grammar school and a vocational secondery school working in town. Mór was established as a town in 1984. Its population exceeds 14000. Around the town is situated the Wine Region of Mór.
