Győr’s, with its nearly 130 000 inhabitants, connecting Slovakia from the north, Austria from the west, Lake Balaton from the south and Budapest from the east of Győr, in the heart of the plain of Northwestern Hungary. This central location lent the town a strategic role as early as the Roman period. In this case Győr grew into a hub of trade bound for the west. The city is knowned for its innumerable monuments.
