A characteristic building complex of the city; a symbol of church, education and public life belonging together. During the 1848-49 revolution and freedom fight, it was in the Great Church that the Declaration of Independence to dethrone the Habsburg-house, adopted by the Hungarian National Assembly convening in the Oratory of the College was proclaimed on 14th April 1849.
