Accessible: 7, M7, railway Nagykanizsa - Budapest The history of Balatonfenyves began when grapes were first harvested in the area in 1896. Vine growing was first introduced to the area after a disastrous vine-pest epidemic destroyed the vines in Badacsony, the historic vine growing region of Lake Balaton. At that time vine growing in the area was organised and controlled by Count Imre Széchenyi. The first settlers were vine dressers followed by the new owners of the vineyards who came from... tovább om Bratislava, Budapest, Nagykanizsa and Pécs. We had always been considered a part of neighbouring settlements with the exception of a very short period in the late 1950s. After a referendum on the 12th May 1991 the village gained its independent status and it is only since then that we can talk about an independent and autonomous Balatonfenyves. We have inherited one of the most beautiful villages on the South shore if not the whole of Lake Balaton. We believe our task is to maintain this beauty, preserve its values and to pass it on to future generations. When you visit Balatonfenyves you will find well maintained public places, gardens and beaches as well as excellent restaurants, a narrow gauge railway, an indoor riding school and a nature reserve. We look forward to welcoming you to our village. Village office: Kölcsey u. 27., Tel: 85/361-478 Fax: 85/361-802
