In the days of the Roman Empire the road between Savaria and Arrabona passed through Árpás. According to documents the village was bestowed upon the Abbey of Bakonybél by Stephen I. in 1030. The inhabitants fled from Turkish troops. Soldiers in the insurrectionist army of János Bottyán fought heavy bottles hier in 1706. The ancient part of the village – formerly Kis-Árpás, but now Dombiföld – together with the church from the Arpad age is situated on the eastern bank of Rába.
