Description

The unique example of an uncovered karst, the so called Devil’s Plough, can be observed on slopes of the formerly forested Pond Hill, right next to the village. Some rocks still preserve the prints of the former forest since the acid produced by roots of trees dissolved deep, round holes in limestone called „bird drinking wells” by locals.<br> Probably after cutting off the forest on the Pond Hill, sediments washed down by rainwater blocked a swallet of the Baradla Cave, creating this way the Aggtelek Pond. The Pond did not exist in the 18th century, a big cabbage producing garden used to be there.
